Islam's prohibitions follow a single logic: prevent harm. The zina prohibition is no different.
Uncommitted sexual relationships disproportionately harm women. Pregnancy without a partner. Social stigma attaching to women, not men. Loss of security. The prohibition is, at its root, protective of women's rights and dignity.
The nasab (lineage) system ensures children have fathers, rights, and inheritance. Zina destroys this. Every child deserves a known father.
"O young men, whoever among you can afford to marry, let him marry. Whoever cannot should fast, for that will be a shield for him."
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The Prophet's instruction is not "suppress your desire." It is "marry." The solution to desire in Islam is not repression — it is facilitation of marriage.
"When a man and a woman are alone together, the third of them is Shaytan."
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
