Domestic Violence Pakistan — Know Your Rights

An estimated 70–90% of Pakistani women experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. It is the most common and most invisible form of gender-based violence in Pakistan.

The law

Punjab: Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016 — provides for protection orders, shelters, GPS monitoring of abusers
Sindh: Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013
KPK: Elimination of Customs and Practices Act 2014
Balochistan: Domestic Violence Against Women Act 2014

What counts as domestic violence under Pakistani law

• Physical assault of any kind
• Emotional and psychological abuse
• Sexual violence within marriage (in provinces where law covers it)
• Economic abuse — withholding money, destroying property
• Stalking and harassment

How to report

1. Call the police — 15 — and request a woman officer if available
2. Go to any hospital for medical documentation of injuries
3. Contact Women Protection Authority in your province
4. Shelter homes are available — you do not need to return home
