Half of deen. Because the Prophet ﷺ knew that most of a person's fitna in life comes from unregulated desire. Nikkah gives it a lawful, dignified, accountable channel.
A garment covers. Protects. Is close. Is worn proudly. Spouses are this for each other.
The mahr belongs solely to the wife. It cannot be taken back. Islam built financial protection for women into the marriage contract fourteen centuries ago.
"A woman is married for four things: wealth, lineage, beauty, and religion. Select the one with religion, and you will prosper."

The Prophet ﷺ explicitly permitted looking at a prospective spouse. Physical attraction is acknowledged as real and relevant.
